If the carotid artery tears or develops a hole near the veins in the cavernous sinus area, a \ufb01stula (channel or shunt) creates, which permits bloodstream from the artery to the vein resulting in consequent symptoms.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading su-cf\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Symptoms of CCF:<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <strong>CCF<\/strong> results in an increase in pressure in the cavernous sinus which compresses the nearby nerves that control eye movements and sensations in parts of your head and face. It can likewise in\ufb02uence the veins that drain the eyes. CCFs are one of the reasons for &#8220;red-eye&#8221; and other visual issues, including vision loss, if not diagnosed and treated in time.<br \/>Symptoms are as follows :<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"ol-xd wp-block-list\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n<li>Drooping of eyelid\/ closed eye<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Bulging eye with congestion<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Double vision<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Blood \ufb02ow sounds around your eye<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Red Eyes<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"433\" class=\"wp-image-722\" src=\"https:\/\/neuroandvascular.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/neuroandvascular.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-4.png 840w, https:\/\/neuroandvascular.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-4-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/neuroandvascular.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-4-768x396.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A 35 year lady had a left eye bulge, redness, congestion due to carotid cavernous fistula.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading trhir\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are two types of Carotid Cavernous Fistulas:<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"ol-xd wp-block-list\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n<li>Direct CCF<\/li>\r\n<li>Indirect CCF<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"trhir wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Direct CCF: \r\n\r\n<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Direct CCF is due to a tear or hole in the carotid artery that directly creates communication between the cavernous sinus and the <a href=\"https:\/\/neuroandvascular.com\/carotid-stenosis-treatment-in-hyderabad.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">carotid artery<\/a>. This hole is called a \ufb01stula, and it is usually caused by accident or injury. 70 to 90% of direct CCFs are caused by injury to Skull.<\/p>\r\n<h3 class=\"trhir\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n\r\n<\/h3>\r\n<h3 class=\"trhir wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Indirect CCF: \r\n\r\n<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Indirect CCFs occur spontaneously and can be caused by irregular connections between the carotid artery and the cavernous sinus.
